Richard enjoys a stellar reputation as a talented and experienced trial lawyer, having tried scores of cases to verdict in the areas of complex commercial litigation and catastrophic injury.  He is known for his thorough review of cases to determine merit, his meticulously careful preparation and his forceful, effective advocacy of the client’s cause.  As a testament to his skill and effectiveness, his five most recent jury verdicts resulted in recovery of more than $60 million in damages suffered by his clients.

Admissions

Mr. Burbidge was admitted to the California State Bar in 1972 and the Utah State Bar in 1975. Mr. Burbidge was admitted to the United States District Court for the State of California in 1972 and the United States District Court for the District of Utah in 1975. Mr Burbidge was admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1972 and the Tenth Circuit in 1975. Mr. Burbidge has also been admitted to the United States Supreme Court.

Education

Mr. Burbidge graduated with honors from the University of Utah in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in political science and graduated with honors from the University of Utah College of Law with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972, where he served as articles editor of the Utah Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Professional Fellowships: Mr. Burbidge has been inducted as a Fellow into the following prestigious trial organizations: Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers; Fellow, International Academy of Trial Lawyers; Fellow, International Society of Barristers; Fellow, American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Burbidge is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Honors and Recognitions: Mr. Burbidge is recognized as a first-tier trial lawyer by Chambers USA. Mr. Burbidge was recently recognized by Best Lawyers (the world’s premier guide) as one of Utah’s top “bet-the-company” lawyers. In addition, Mr. Burbidge has been listed in “Best Lawyers in America” since 1995, recognized in the top 75 Mountain States Super Lawyers, cited by Law Dragon as a top 500 national trial lawyers, and featured in April 2001 in Utah Business Magazine as one of Utah’s “most feared lawyers.”
